TIR (live) and Support by Private Equity

Relating to Jeremy Rifkin's Third Industrial Revolution I was surprised to recently found out that companies already exist that want to create exactly this. In the blog entry (actually disputing about copyright issues currently discussed in Germany) is mentioned Ubitricity, a company that intends to create the infrastructure for charging battery driven cars. Through the partners page you can also see other companies that add other pieces to the puzzle that has to be assembled: Voltaris and ITF-EDV Fröschl for energy measurement, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt for the research on measurement techniques, Vector Informatik for cross-linking of electronic systems in vehicles and Gigatronik for knowledge of the electronic and IT branche.
I don't know how advanced their are or if other such companies exist yet, but I will keep my eyes open.

Another interesting fact is that Ubitricity is part of the Earlybird Venture Portfolio. Maybe that helps to open the eyes of some people that believe that the Private Equity branch are just vampires that suck companies dry. Well, mainly they believe that, because some media use it against Mitt Romney (co-founder of Bain Capital) in the election campaign of the US. And what I experience is that the average person has sometimes difficulties to get the idea. I always try to simplify the most: Buy a company, make it grow and more efficient, sell it with gains due to the efficiency and range increase and maybe get some dividend meanwhile from the earnings. That's so simple that normally everybody understands :).
